Pennsylvania's Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS)
The upcoming legislation in Pennsylvania aims to establish a low carbon fuel standard (LCFS), in response to the transportation sector accounting for 22% of the state's total greenhouse gas emissions. The LCFS will promote the use of low carbon fuels, including biofuels, renewable diesel, ethanol, and electric vehicles, which can be used in various motor vehicles and as heating fuel to reduce emissions. The Pennsylvania LCFS, which is a credit trading system between private sector participants overseen by the Commonwealth, aims to beneficially reuse waste, reduce transportation sector emissions, and stimulate in-state industries to produce low carbon fuels.
